POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Center Attendant provides quality care to children 6 weeks to 12 years of age who participate in the child-watch program while their family is using the facility. Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.  Promotes and supports the potential of all youth in programs and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall member experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Responsible for the appropriate supervision, safety, and well-being of each child under their watch;  both visual and auditory.

  2. Implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate, and consistent with the YMCA values. 

  3. Maintains program site and equipment (including cleanliness of rooms, supplies, and toys)

  4. Maintains required program records. 

  5. Attends and participates in family nights, program activities, team meetings and training. 

  6. Follow and enforce all YMCA policies and procedures including those pertaining to medical and disciplinary situations, sign in/out, child abuse prevetion, emergencies, and dress code. 

  7. Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children, and other team members. Models relationships-building skills in all interactions. 

  8. Must present a professional image and possess conflict resolution skills, and demonstrate sound judgement and initiative. 

  9. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Previous experience working with diverse populations. 

  2. Previous experience working with children. 

  3. Minimum of 18 years of age. 

  4. Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

  5. Ability to build positive and authentic relationships, and communicate with parents and children. 


CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Before start of 1st shift: New Hire Orientation training and Child Abuse Prevention. 

  2. CPR, First Aid, AED certifications within 30 days of hire date.
