POSITION SUMMARY:

The Y operates a licensed School Age Child Care program at the Delaware Family YMCA in North Buffalo and at various off-site locations in the service area.  The head of group supervises an assigned group of children and implements weekly/daily lesson plans.

 

GENERAL WORK SCHEDULE:

Monday – Friday, up to 28 hours per week.  Early morning and afternoon positions are available.  Split shifts may be required.  Additional hours may be required to accommodate full day child care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Assists in the development and implementation of weekly lesson plans for site activities.
  2. Provides daily supervision of all staff assigned to the program in the Site Coordinator’s absence.
  3. Implements and maintains policies, rules, regulations, and standards as required by the NYS Office of Child and Family Services (OCFS), school administration, and YMCA Buffalo Niagara.
  4. Maintains the cleanliness and organization of program/work areas.  Enforces PPE compliance.
  5. Enforces safety rules and reports/treats any injuries.
  6. Performs various administrative tasks in compliance with YMCA procedures and regulatory agencies.
  1. Develops and maintains positive relationships with children, parents, staff, and school administration.
  2. Attends and participates in staff meetings and training sessions.
  3. Carries out other tasks as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Meets qualifications in compliance with licensing requirements of the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS): High School diploma or equivalent, 2 years of direct experience working with children under the age of 13 years, successfully completes the OCFS comprehensive background clearance requirements before beginning work at the program site.
  3. Able to lead activities for elementary school age children including group work, values education, and age appropriate activities.
  4. An understanding of the YMCA and its mission, goals and programs.
  5. Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with participants, parents, school administration, and staff.
  6. American Red Cross, American Health Association, American Safety & Health Institute certification in CPR/AED (Adult, Child, Infant) and First Aid.
