SAFETY COORDINATOR (NIGHT SHIFT)

Position Summary Description:

Under the direction of the Safety Manager, the Safety Coordinator assists in the management of safety programs, reporting and monitoring requirements, and training activities.  The Safety Coordinator provides administrative support in meetings, investigations, and reporting through scheduling, note-taking and data-entry.  Gains an understanding and ability to interpret OSHA, HIOSH, DOT and other governing body requirements relating to workplace safety and ensuring all components are addressed and observed within the organization.  The Safety Coordinator is also responsible for scheduling and providing training and continued monitoring of all safety protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

OSHA / HIOSH / DOT

• Serves as an additional point of contact in all areas relating to OSHA, HIOSH and DOT safety matters.
• Gains an understanding and remains current with regulatory requirements (OSHA, HIOSH, and FSRM).  Under the direction of the Safety Manager, serves as a resource for safety regulations.
• Assists in the monitoring of safety requirements and legislation; works with Safety Manager to ensure proper communication and updates on any changes to safety regulations occur.
• Assists in monitoring and reporting to ensure employees receive and pass required annual training / certifications.
• Assists in the monitoring, recordkeeping, and oversight of Food Warehouse and Distribution Industry Compliance, Federal and State DOT and Warehouse Operational requirements that affect organizational safety.

Safety Training Programs

• Serves as a supportive resource partner to Operations and other key departments to promote safety within the workplace.
• Coordinates and schedules all evening/night training classes.
• Monitors organizational compliance with safety procedures and coordinates training and drills as needed; including external training such as First Aid, CPR, AED, and BBP.
• Proactively looks to leverage safety resources to create additional-value for the organization in the way of training or quick-bite news articles.
• Serves as trainer for safety topics for new hire orientation and online training.

Data Management

• Assists with completion of internal incident report forms regarding safety.
• Document and record attendance of employees training sessions
• Under the direction of the Safety Manager, updates Management Safety Policy and informs all affected parties of changes.

Safety Meetings

• Conducts safety meetings as needed with applicable staff and management to ensure awareness of safety policies and requirements.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Education/Training and Experience:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

Will need to complete OSHA training prior to or upon hire.

Two years of relevant safety experience in Food Distribution and OSHA/DOT regulated field preferred. 

Other:

Must possess or be able to obtain Smith System Defensive Driving Certification (non-driving role, safety perspective only)

Able to work evening/night shifts.

Able to work varied hours.

Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR, AED, and Blood borne Pathogens Certification.

Valid driver’s license, good driving record and use of own vehicle.
