Job Summary:

Energetics is seeking a qualified candidate for a Technical Project Manager position requiring extensive project management experience and a technical background in the transportation field. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the market transformation of innovative technologies by successfully executing the assigned projects. The project work will be in the following areas: 1) vehicle transportation electrification, 2) connected and automated vehicles, and 3) alternative fuel vehicle technologies. The position is located in New York, with occasional travel to project meetings, project sites and conferences. An occasional trip to Energetics’ headquarters in Columbia, MD can also be expected.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Project Management

  • Schedule project activities at start and actively manage these activities through the project lifecycle. Analyze, plan and develop requirements for assigned projects.

  • Assign and oversee the daily tasks of technical personnel while ensuring all subordinates are actively working toward established milestones. Will be required to manage more than one project at a time. Manage projects to ensure all scoped task activities are completed on-time and within budget. Maintain project time frames, budget estimates and status reports. Carefully track all costs through Cognos-generated reports using CostPoint data.

  • Determine and define clear deliverables, roles and responsibilities for staff members required for projects or initiatives. Carefully manage time commitments and effectively communicate assignments with Program Directors.

  • Develop contingency performance plans to address changes in scope, budget or schedule. Predict challenges and proactively address possible issues.

Technical Contributions

  • Assess and recommend appropriate light-, medium-, and heavy-duty alternative fuel vehicles for fleet operations.

  • Plan and oversee the implementation of alternative fuel and advanced technology solutions for government and private fleets.

  • Recommend charging infrastructure for light-, medium-, and heavy-duty electric vehicles.

  • Support third party transportation technology evaluation activities including data collection, analysis, and reporting.

Business Development

  • Engage with local transportation stakeholders and fleets on potential project opportunities.

  • Track and assist with the pursuit of California energy and air quality agencies and utilities’ transportation funding opportunities.

  • Contribute to the development of conceptual solutions and any associated proposal preparation activities for federal, state and local grants

Communication

  • Hold regular internal technical team meetings to determine progress and address any challenges

  • Regularly communicate with Program Director and/or Vice President on the status of projects

  • Develop good relationships with project team partners and clients through active communication of project progress through monthly update reports and regular check-in meetings.

  • Use time management strategies and organizational skills to keep projects on track.

  • Make timely decisions and actively supervise project team activities.

  • Take personal accountability of team performance.

  • Use analytical thinking and managerial experience to resolve technical issues.

  • Mentor project staff where appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or planning discipline.

  • 5 years’ managing technical projects with an understanding of mobile transportation technologies.

  • Experience working in a highly collaborative environment that encourages teamwork.

  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills.

  • Superior Microsoft Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams).

  • Strong time management and prioritization skills to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

Preferred Requirements

  • Advanced degree in engineering, science or planning discipline

  • PMP certification

  • Established network clean transportation stakeholders in California

  • 10 years of experience working as a consultant/project manager in the transportation sector

  • Proven leadership skills and experience

  • Experience securing and managing federal or state grants
