The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization, has a job opening for a Childcare Worker/ Driver for the Lakeland Child Care , located in Lakeland, Florida.

JOB SUMMARY:


Provides child care services for children including personal care, hygiene, pre-developed learning and development activities and specialized programs; follow lesson plans to teach pre-school classes; prepares and maintains records; maintains cleanliness and orderliness of child care property. Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers to and from Salvation Army activities.

Provides constant care for the needs of the children in an efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy manner.


Assists in the classroom by following and carrying out lesson plans which are age-group program specific; utilizes age-group appropriate discovery areas, enriched with program-specific activities, including teacher-made materials and hands-on activities.


Determines appropriate supplies and materials for lesson plans and recreational activities; ensures the children's safety in utilizing the same.

Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities.


Prepares and serves children snacks and meals; ensures that children receive nutritional and tasteful food; provides positive, relaxed atmosphere during children mealtime encouraging conversation.


Organizes and supervises recreational activities; observes, monitors, and supervises children on the playground.


Exhibits control of the children and when needed displays proper discipline techniques.


Decorates rooms with up-to-date themes and seasons; prepares and maintains attractive, entertaining, and educational bulletin boards.


Closes and locks windows, and turns off lights before leaving the Child Care and straightens the room before leaving each day.


Maintains the classroom materials in an orderly fashion.


Monitors and ensures the personal hygiene of the children, including toilet assistance, diapering, etc.; adheres to sanitary procedures including but not limited to labeling of cots, cribs, cubbies and storing bedding and clothing in the proper manner.


Maintains the classroom materials in an orderly fashion; maintains accountability for any laundry, money and supplies necessary for classroom programs.


Cleans the kitchen, classrooms, high chairs, tables, floors, toys, cribs, etc. in accordance with established sanitary standards.


Reports all accidents to the supervisor in an accurate and timely manner.


Builds and maintains effective and positive relationships with parents; informs parents of children's progress and specific incidents as instructed by classroom teacher, Childcare Director or other supervisor chain of command.


Follows guidelines provided on Standards of Performance.


Provides transportation for members to and from the Corps each Sunday.


Provides transportation for children to and from afternoon activities.


Provides transportation for Home League members to and from the Fellowship Hall.


Provides transportation for children to and from day camp and during day camp trips.


Provides transportation for groups for summer camp.


Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items as needed.


Drives carefully and observes/complies with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.


Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.


Locks vehicle doors when vehicle is not in use.


Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.


Logs all mileage on standard forms; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.


Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.


Maintains control of passenger activities by prohibiting unsafe or non-Christian behavior.



OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:


Assists with transporting children whenever needed; ensures the safety and protection of children at all times.


Attends and participates in regularly scheduled in-service training sessions.


Assists in preparing and providing field trips for children.


Serves as a substitute teacher for other classes when needed.


Schedules routine maintenance of The Salvation Army vehicle to ensure safety of passengers and long life of vehicle.


Washes and cleans vehicle regularly.


Performs other related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:


High school diploma or G.E.D. required,


and


two years experience teaching child development programs in a church or pre-school,


or


any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:


Valid state driver's license

C.P.R. and First Aid Certification


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:


Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.


Knowledge of the principles and practices of early childhood curriculum development.


Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.


Knowledge of acceptable driving techniques and practices.


Knowledge of safety precautions associated with transporting passengers.


Ability to teach children Christian values as well as general early childhood education curriculum.


Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.


Ability to drive a passenger vehicle ensuring the safety of passengers and protection of the vehicle.


Ability to read and follow maps.


Ability to gauge time needed to arrive at destination.


Ability to maintain driving ability according to State, DOT, and Salvation Army policies, procedures, and certifications.


MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES:


Ability to meet attendance requirements.


Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.


Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.


Ability to lift, hold, and carry children on a regular basis (up to 50 lbs.).


Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.


WORKING CONDITIONS:


Work is performed in a normal child care environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like and driving a vehicle where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with long distance trips or heavy traffic.
