The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith based organization has a job opening for a Special Events/Volunteer Coordinator & Social Media Specialist for the Vero Beach Corps, located in Vero Beach, FL.
JOB SUMMARY
Manages volunteer and staff bell-ringing activities for Red Kettles, as well as community outreach activities with Indian River County schools and other organizations. Identifies and maintains a list of volunteer opportunities within the Command. Recruits, trains, coordinates, and monitors the work of volunteers ensuring ample staff to meet program needs; prepares records and reports regarding the same. Under the direction of the Corps Officer oversees, plans, and coordinates special events. Provides administrative detail and on-line record-keeping of all special events and volunteer activities for the Corps. This position requires a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends. Requires an outgoing, detail-oriented, event-planning professional who can form/build vendor, community and donor relationships with an awareness of the Corps’ overall fundraising goals.

Volunteer Coordinator
Coordinates resources and volunteer personnel to implement year-round fund raising efforts. Participates in screening and selection of volunteer staff ensuring adequate staff is maintained to meet program needs. Plans, schedules and assigns volunteer staff to program coordinators; instructs volunteers in proper methods and procedures; maintains volunteer database and volunteer application files. Evaluates volunteer performance through interviews with program coordinators and volunteers. Prepares and maintains up-to-date records on all volunteers; prepares annual report regarding the status of the volunteer program. Confers with the volunteer supervisor regarding the status and performance of the volunteer program; prepares records and reports regarding the same. Identifies and recommends changes in assignment and termination of volunteer staff. Assists the Corps Officer in preparing annual volunteer appreciation event; invites volunteers, plans program, recommends special recognition activities; coordinates staff involvement.

Red Kettle Program
Oversees scheduling and managing of volunteers as bell ringers at kettle locations to reduce employment costs. Incorporates development of additional locations as appropriate to overall routes. Seeks to enhance site collections based on previous years reports and volunteer production records. Assists Corps Officer with all aspects of the Red Kettle Campaign including scheduling of staff, monitoring work performance of employed bell ringers, answering questions, concerns and/or problems from staff, volunteers, the community and merchants. Oversees the creation of the kettle ringer schedule and supervisor’s daily kettle driving routes. Supervises report procedures and ensures timely and efficient report delivery.
Special Events
Plans, develops, coordinates, and monitors all details associated with the production of fund-raising special events and campaigns including but not limited to the Annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, Annual Golf Tournament Annual 5K Walk, Red Kettle Program, William Booth Society, National Salvation Army Week and Donut Day. Identifies the necessary resources, equipment, and personnel; plans event procedures; recruits, motivates, inspires and instructs volunteers and staff.

Creates and Manages Event Database.
Represents The Salvation Army at public information fairs; assembles and prepares materials. To build, enhance and sustain donors, coordinates participation in and promotion of, existing community marketing events; seeks to expand and develop additional community awareness and fundraising opportunities. Assists the Corps Officer in communicating with the Advisory Board on fund raising, special events and committee projects. In coordination with the Corps Officer prepares correspondence including, thank you letters; updates and maintains current contact lists; makes phone calls to network and otherwise develop relationships benefiting The Salvation Army.
Website & Social Media
Oversees the creation, production, and maintenance of the website and all content, photos, links, etc Assists the Corps Officer in compiling and publishing the Annual Report and other locally printed materials. Maintains and updates website and social media accounts. Manages social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube in accordance with departmental policy, Salvation Army policy, and State and Federal regulations guiding the use of social media. Outreaches and engages target audiences through various social mediums to create online conversations and communities about client brands and services. Works across departments to ensure proper messaging is being executed online and is relevant to organization goals. Supports and protects globally recognized brand by ensuring positive messaging is maintained in community. Establishes consistency of message across multiple networks. Manages online discussions by listening to users, reading between the lines, and responding in a timely manner to users’ needs and requests. Monitors and tracks discussion topics across multiple Salvation Army corps to stay innovative and current with messaging.

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or a related Business field, And four (4) years progressively responsible experience in public relations developing and coordinating special events and volunteer relations or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office products and database applications Strong written and verbal/public speaking skills Knowledge of volunteer recruitment methods and practices Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate special events Ability to prepare and maintain on-line records and reports in an accurate and complete manner Ability to clearly communicate roles and responsibilities to individuals and groups Ability to lead, motivate and evaluate the work of volunteers Ability to plan, schedule, and conduct orientations, meetings, trainings, and public presentations Ability to effectively utilize community resources Ability to promote awareness and support for the Volunteer Program. Ability to pay attention to detail. Must have excellent organizational, project management and multi-tasking skills; be a self-starter, and have an ability to manage well under stressful situations. Must have a desire to work with diverse people and groups, and have the ability to be diplomatic. Ability to balance team and individual responsibilities; contributes to building a positive team spirit; puts success of team above own interests. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive information.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES
Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate the English language. Ability to speak before large groups in person, Ability to lead, motivate and evaluate the work efforts of volunteers. Ability to initiate projects and use sound judgment in concept assimilation and promotion. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
