Plans, directs, monitors and evaluates all public relations functions for an Area Command to ensure that The Salvation Army maintains a favorable and positive image in the communities; serves as liaison to all media ensuring the desired message is communicated; takes photographs and videos and writes articles covering Salvation Army events; participates in coordinating and promoting special events. Serves as contact to all donors regarding mail appeals and/or questions regarding fund raising projects. Serves as liaison to the Advisory Board and Women’s Auxiliary, Eschelon, and provides administrative support for meetings.

Attends Salvation Army events and special meetings to take photographs and videos and writes articles for publication in The Salvation Army periodicals and newsletters.

Writes various articles and press releases to communicate and promote the service and progress of The Salvation Army in the community.

Designs, develops, and prepares a quarterly newsletter designed to keep donors, media, and those requesting information of The Salvation Army up to date on the activities of The Salvation Army in the local area.

Supervises and participates in the creation, preparation and/or upgrading of promotional materials to include annual reports, brochures, newsletters, and programs.

Contacts the media to create awareness of special interest or events of The Salvation Army; serves as a Salvation Army representative or spokesperson as directed; represents The Salvation Army in a professional and positive manner.

Submits news and press releases of special Salvation Army events, meetings, and projects to the local media.

Develop and implements social media strategy through research, benchmarking, and audience identification; create, maintain, and grow new and existing social networks; measures the success of social media campaign; collaborate with other departments to ensure programs, events, and services are successfully communicated to donors and community. This also will include development, maintenance and updating You-Tube with weekly videos and ongoing updates to TSA Orlando APP.

Develops and coordinates the preparation of an annual report for distribution at the Annual Gala and throughout the year.

Prepares and sends public relations information about Salvation Army programs, etc. to the general public.

Works with volunteers, civic groups, and media to get The Salvation Army programs before the community; conducts tours of the facility to any interested groups or individuals;, including all media; gives presentations to companies, civic organizations, and various clubs to promote programs to the community; represents The Salvation Army at United Way meetings; works closely with United Way personnel in fund raising efforts.

Serves as contact person to all donors in regard to mail appeals and/or questions regarding other means of fund raising; approves and/or composes mail appeal letters to donors with approval from Commanding Officer; corresponds with large donors ($100 or more) either written or verbal on a regular basis to inform them how their donations are being used and to thank them personally for their continued support.

Develop and implements mail appeal functions; plans direct mail campaigns; analyzes financial results.;

Protect and promote TSA brands, logos, and mailings.

Serves as liaison to Advisory Board; assists in developing advisory board relations and leadership recruitment; maintains current list of all Advisory Board members including addresses and phone numbers; assists Advisory Board members and officers as needed; notifies Board members in writing or by telephone of all executive, regular or special meetings; sets-up all advisory board luncheons and committee meetings; assists in coordinating annual dinner; assists in typing Board minutes when needed.

Serves as liaison to Women’s Auxiliary; maintains current list of all members including addresses and phone listings; assists Women’s Auxiliary members and officers as needed; sets-up all Women’s Auxiliary work-day luncheons.

Serves as liaison to Eschelon; maintains current list of all members including address and phone listings; assist s Eschelon members and officers as needed; sets-up all Eschelon on property worday luncheons.

Coordinates and facilitates as well as manages the relationship with a third-party Marketing firm and work internally with all Development areas for consistent messaging.

Brand image of the Area Command will require that all marketing must fit under the branding umbrella so that each mirror the plansk, strategies, etc., in the market. Branding will impact donors and fundraising.


Designs, prepares layout, and generates charts, graphs, posters, bulletins, and programs as needed; ensures that photographs are taken at all special events.

Assists in planning and coordinating special events, coordination and management of volunteers, annual conferences, and seasonal programs.

Assists in performing long-range planning identifying goals and objectives for the ensuing year.

Assists in preparing and administering the departmental budget; develops budget projectectioms and monitors expenditures to ensure compliance with budget constraints.

Performs other related work as required.


General Office Equipment



Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Relations, Communications, or a related field,


Three years progressively responsible experience coordinating fund-raising activities,


any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.


Valid State Drivers' License


Knowledge of the principles and practices of public relations.

Knowledge of excellent communication and writing skills.

Knowledge of acceptable fund-raising methods and strategies specifically for capital campaigns.

Knowledge of online analysis and marketing.

Knowledge of photoshop, illustrator, and proficient computer skills, graphic design skills is a must.

Ability to produce You Tube videos and set up releases to the public.

Ability to manage TSA Orlando APP, update and keep fresh with feeds, stories, leads, etc.

Ability to prepare effective printed materials for educational and promotional purposes.

Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.

Ability to plan, coordinate, and evaluate fund-raising events.

Ability to create branding strategies to enhance the visibility of TSA and effectiveness of the organization.

Able to prepare and present presentations to leadership s funding decisions can be effectively and timely achieved.

Ability to administer a budget and monitors expenditures for compliance with the same.

Ability to prepare and maintains reports in an accurate and complete manner.

Ability to be a team player.

Ability to prioritize work assignments.


Ability to meet attendance requirements.

Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.

Ability to speak before large groups in person, by radio and television.

Ability to travel to various locations to participate in public meetings, conferences, etc.

Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.


Work is performed in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.

Events may not occur on weekdays and within standard operating hours. This position must be available to cover weekend and after hour events as needed.
