DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
Maintains control and automation systems, perform tests and calibrations, repair or replace components and troubleshoot equipment, electronic, instrumentation and networks.  Play an active role in the day-to-day operations of the facility.  Work with operations and Maintenance Department to minimize downtime.  Provide feedback and root cause analysis and problem descriptions as needed.  Troubleshoot efficiently and effectively with the use of logic.  Ability to work on various projects with disciplines in Electrical design, Programming, pneumatics, hydraulics, servo drives and variable frequency drives with emphasis on safety.  This list is not all-inclusive.  Candidate may be expected to perform job related duties other than those contained in the principal duties and responsibilities list.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Installs, programs, inspects, troubleshoots, and adjusts electrical devices and equipment, instrumentation, and related controls hardware.
  • Review, Modify, Create CAD drawings and other documentation.
  • Perform network troubleshooting and diagnostics for Layer 1 and Layer 2 networks.
  • Troubleshoot, understand, Class C Ethernet networks.
  • Understands VLAN’s subnets and gateway addressing
  • Understand Ethernet IO Networks – ENET/IP, Profinet, Melsec, CC-Link
  • Managed and un-Managed network switches.
  • Ensure Equipment and control systems are compliant with established guidelines.
  • Compliance with National Electrical Code, NFPA 79E, UL501 and other applicable laws, codes, or regulations.
  • Performs basic programming for food process systems.
  • Install, Program, Modify VFD Drive systems.
  • Process control of temperature, flow, weight and automated systems.
  • Proficient in the following Programming software:
    • Rockwell Software, studio 5000, RsLogix5000, RsLogix500, Factory Talk View Studio, Rs-Linx, TIA Portal, Step 7, GX Developer, Beckhoff, visual studio.
  • A good understanding of Relay logic, Three wire control, motor contractors, motor starters and Electrical motor safety.
  • Understands controls safety, Control reliability & control feedback. 
  • Good working knowledge of how Safety is categorized, Performance level, and how to apply each.
  • Must know how to wire and interoperates safety systems.  Along with the use of safety systems including, safety relays, safety controllers, force guided contacts and contactors.
  • Responds to emergency call outs.
  • Provide remote support on off shifts.
  • Learn and follow the proper good manufacturing procedures (GMP) for whatever area of the facility you are working in.
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Support all safety, food quality and sanitation initiatives and policies.
  • Follow Sugar Creek Packing Co. safety rules and procedures.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); Technical or Vocation training preferred.
Experience: 5-10 years in related electrical or Controls Engineering.
Certification or Licensure Requirements: None.

ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED
  • Know how to troubleshoot and diagnose control circuitry.
  • Able to read schematics and electrical prints.
  • Know to use Digital Multi-meters.
  • Able to follow lockout tag out procedures.
  • Possess the ability to diagnose electric motor failure.
  • Possess strong proficiency in using the devices and procedures for calibration, analysis, and testing of equipment and control devices.
  • Possess strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Able to read critically and write effectively.
  • Able to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess strong attention to detail.
  • Able to work well with others in a team environment.
  • Possess strong programmable logic controller (PLC) troubleshooting and programming skills.
  • Possess strong human machine interface (HMI) troubleshooting and programming skills.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
No unusual physical requirements. Physical requirements are consistent with manufacturing-type office positions, including mostly sitting with some standing/walking required.  Other light physical activity like using stairs or occasionally moving items weighing less than 15lbs may be required as needed.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Some work is performed in a comfortable indoor, office-like facility. Some work is performed in an indoor, manufacturing facility with close proximity to heavy and hazardous machinery. Safety wear is required, including hard hat, hairnet, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe boots, respirators, coats and other necessary equipment. Some travel may be required.
