Are you tired of driving long hauls?  Being away from home for long extended periods of time?  Savage is looking for a Class A CDL Driver who will safely and efficiently transport material to and from our customer's locations year-round.  You will be home in your own bed three or more nights a week.

What you'll be doing

  • Safely and efficiently transport products to and from locations year-round 
  • Partner with dispatch in safely transporting material 
  • Assist the operation with other tasks deemed necessary to meet customer expectations 
  • Report maintenance issues to Dispatch 
  • Driving between 7 to 10 hours per day.
  • Take an active role in our safety program including attendance to all safety meetings and ensure safe behaviors of self and others

Requirements of a successful CDL Driver

  • Class A CDL with Tanker and hazmat endorsement required.
  • Ability to work days or nights and must be willing to work an occasional weekend day.
  • Professional demeanor (safety conscious, quality of job performance, cleanliness, and verbal communications)
  • Experience driving in the snow and ice
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check, drug screen and reference check and successfully pass Savage's road test, which will include a proper pre and post trip inspection of the vehicle. 
  • A solid and stable work history, please include a 10 year work history on the application.
  • Safety conscious and understand safe work practices for operating in different environments: freeway conditions, secondary roads, in-plant facilities, weather, such as snow, rain, etc.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Must be able to read maps and operate GPS unit.
  • Must show a basic knowledge of DOT regulations as determined in interviews and be willing and able to work within the hours of service regulations
  • Must be able to qualify for a Passport and TWIC card 

Education/Experience

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Valid CDL Driver’s License, Hazmat, Tanker endorsements required
  • A minimum of 2 years of Class A CDL Driving experience
  • Must be one year violations free and two years accident free per MVR
  • A solid and stable work history, please include a 10 year work history on the application.
  • Experience and willingness to drive in adverse weather

 

Here are some of the physical requirements of this role

  • Climb into and out of cab multiple times per shift
  • Climb a ladder several times a day
  • Lift roughly 25 pounds while connecting hoses to trailers
  • Drive and work in adverse weather conditions
  • Hook and unhook hoses and open and close valves
  • Sit in truck long distances for up to 7 to 10 hours per day
  • Must be able to wear chemical suit and other PPE while unloading hazardous materials in all types of weather
