Summary: 

Evaluate electrical, thermal, and mechanical characteristics of integrated circuits, components, sub-components, and systems to determine root cause of failure. Analyze failure reports and recommend corrective action to prevent reoccurrence of problems.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze device failures: Characterization and verification of failures using bench test equipment
  • Use of analysis techniques such as liquid crystal, probing, voltage contrast, cross-sectioning, and other methods that are developed to determine root cause of failure
  • Diagnostic Equipment: Operate the Focused Ion Beam (FIB), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), and the Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectrometer (EDS) systems to analyze failing parts
  • Interpret IC Design: Read schematics and layout plots, understand device functionality, and Automated Test Equipment (ATE) data logs
  • Formal Report and Analysis Results: Write formal analysis reports that are distributed to internal and external customers
  • Provide Engineering Direction: Provide engineering direction on failure analysis, circuit analysis, design, processing, and device physics support
  • Create and train procedures and techniques for performing recurring analysis techniques.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or other closely related field.
  • 2 or more years of directly relatable experience.
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device processing, device physics, basic chemistry, and defect failure mechanisms.
  • Skills in circuit analysis, FA techniques, deductive reasoning and problem solving.
  • Skills in analog and digital lab equipment operation.
  • Skills in personal interfacing, verbal and written communications, report, and procedure writing.

U.S. Citizen Required: This position will require the holding of a government security clearance which requires U.S Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or other closely related field.
  • 5 or more years of directly relatable experience.
  • Skills in operating a dual beam FIB.
  • Skills in STEM sample preparation an imaging.
