HOW YOU WILL IMPACT OUR MISSION
The Chief Marketing Officer is responsible for overseeing the planning, development and execution of the organization's marketing, communications, sales and licensing/sponsorship initiatives in guiding San Diego Zoo Global's (SDZG) support of its mission and in driving engagement for the world-famous San Diego Zoo and the San Diego Zoo Safari Park. The Chief Marketing Officer oversees all areas of marketing, communications and public relations, sales, broadcast production, publication, brand equity, licensing and sponsorship. Marketing strategist bringing a broad and diverse background in innovation and brand experiences through creative processes in social media, digital marketing, search engine marketing and advertising driving towards attendance and engagement. The Chief Marketing Officer ensures the organization's message is communicated across all channels and to targeted audiences making impactful contributions to the organization's mission. Further develops and implements strategies across the organization to increase attendance and revenue supporting our mission. This position reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Drive the evolution of our brand positioning, bringing it to life in a clear and consistent way that resonates with and motivates our audiences
  • Drives the creation of the organizational strategic plan for marketing, communications, sales, publications, licensing/sponsorships and broadcast production which dovetails with the organization’s strategy and priorities
  • Integrates all SDZG marketing division’s programs and processes to meet strategic goals
  • Leads the marketing and communications practice of SDZG as an evolving conservation organization, committed to changing outcomes for the world’s most endangered wildlife
  • Drives and unifies customer experience, brand purpose, creative communication, and marketing technology
  • Leverages, fosters, and develops a variety of top-tier nationwide and local collaborative business relationships
  • Provides leadership and direction for the marketing, communications, sales and licensing/sponsorship teams, guiding their strategic direction and measuring their performance
  • Understands and collaborates with organizational teams to achieve the overall campaign goals and objectives
  • Negotiates and executes relevant contractual agreements
  • Deepens relationships with key partners. Nurture existing relationships with key partners, aligning on mutual goals and driving adoption through a variety of co-marketing efforts
  • Serves on the SDZG Executive Team collaborating on strategic planning, mission and vision, conservation initiatives, global brand awareness and operational activities
  • Reviews and approves marketing, communication, sales, licensing and sponsorship policies and procedures
  • Assures that the CMO’s divisional responsibilities and actions comply with professional standards and regulations
  • Develops, administers, and monitors assigned budgets
  • Coordinates the marketing and sales division’s activities with SDZG partner organizations
  • Assures effective organizational development and team building
  • Establishes and implements related policies and procedures

JOB EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5 years of marketing experience in a Vice President or Chief Marketing Officer equivalent role, including exposure to and experience with large consumer facing operations
  • 5 years or more as a self-starter, organized and self-motivated with the ability to define goals and prioritize work
  • A successful track record with a high-growth company/platform
  • Background in all aspects of sales and marketing including specialties with data collection, field marketing, content marketing, email marketing, social media, conversion optimization and digital strategy
  • Strong analytical and writing skills. Comfortable with data and analytics, and can clearly communicate your results and ideas.
  • A passion to communicate our commitment to pursuing the conservation challenges impacting our world today
  • Conservation communications experience (either nonprofit or for-profit)

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree Marketing, business administration, sales, communications, or a related field with equivalent experience managing large marketing organizations, or related professional experience
  • California Driver License

  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Prepare and deliver presentations
  • Write exceptionally well
  • Speak Spanish fluently (desired, but not required)
  • Work as a C-level executive
  • Work effectively with others in a diverse environment
