Job Summary

Project HOME’s Adult Learning Program seeks an enthusiastic and engaging, part-time lead instructor to deliver customer service and basic computer skills training to adult learners. The Lead Instructor brings lesson plans to life and provides direct instruction on customer service skills and practical computer skills for the workplace. The Instructor also facilitates role plays in front-desk reception and support staff scenarios compiled from our employer partners. A comprehensive facilitator’s guide and course materials are provided to teach trauma-informed customer service training skills and practical computer skills, including basic instruction in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel, internet searching and completing online forms. Classes will be conducted in-person but will begin remotely. Hours are 20 - 30 hours per week, Monday through Friday 10am - 2pm.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain a welcoming, engaging, and cooperative classroom environment 
  • Implement daily lessons and facilitate student acquisition of the skills needed to obtain employment
  • Foster each student’s investment in learning the course materials and provide individualized supports to complete the course
  • Follow up with students between classes to answer questions and to develop connections with students that promote consistency in attendance and confidence to complete assignments and the course
  • Instruct in a manner that develops students’ confidence in their abilities
  • Observe and manage classroom dynamics and maintain an engaging and orderly classroom
  • Lead class discussions on topics related to course content 
  • Collaborate with Assistant Instructor in delivery of lesson plans and activities
  • Maintain accurate daily attendance
  • Assist with recruitment and retention of students 
  • Participate in required professional development program and staff meetings

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Experience working with individuals who have had significant barriers to employment, including history of homelessness, incarceration, substance use disorder or mental health issues
  • At least 2 years’ classroom teaching experience
  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Enthusiastic, nurturing, and adaptable approach to teaching
  • Excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational, planning and classroom management skills
  • Experience planning/facilitating lessons
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic computer skills such as internet searching and completing online forms

Preferred Qualifications

  • Customer service experience
