Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Capital Bikeshare currently operates with over 500 stations and 4500 bikes in Washington, DC, the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD and Prince George’s County, MD, with system expansion planned in all jurisdictions.


Through contracts with the Washington DC Department of Transportation (DDOT), the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD, and Prince George’s County, MD, Motivate International, Inc. is responsible for all “on the ground” aspects of Capital Bikeshare, including but not limited to: station and bike building and deployment, station and bike repair and maintenance, and bicycle redistribution.

Overview Of Position:

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the Capital Bikeshare service, Motivate will launch an e-bike program with battery-powered pedal-assist bicycles added to the system. The Battery Charging  will be part of a team dedicated to working on these e-bike efforts. They will primarily be responsible for ensuring that the batteries are inventoried and charged for the Swapping team. As part of this position, the Battery Charger will receive basic training on e-bike operations and battery technology. This position will report directly to the Battery Swap Manager.

Key aspects of the position:

  • Inspect batteries for damage and log any damaged batteries into a smart phone app

  • Inventory batteries that are returning from the field and make note of any missing batteries

  • Assist Battery Swappers with loading and unloading of cases from their vehicles

  • Prepare field supplies for Battery Swappers

  • warehouse and battery swapping areas

  • Maintain constant battery rotations on and off the chargers keep supply up

  • Prepare e-bikes with batteries for deployment

  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Understand and perform safe battery handling practices

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Dependability, including the ability to be at work on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance

  • Must be able to work up to 10-hour shifts and weekends

  • Ability to lift over 70 lbs. stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time

  • Attention to visual details to maintain safe battery operations
