About Capital Bike Share

Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Capital Bikeshare currently operates with over 500 stations and 4500 bikes in Washington, DC, the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD and Prince George’s County, MD, with system expansion planned in all jurisdictions.

 

Through contracts with the Washington DC Department of Transportation (DDOT), the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD, and Prince George’s County, MD, Motivate International, Inc. is responsible for all “on the ground” aspects of Capital Bikeshare, including but not limited to: station and bike building and deployment, station and bike repair and maintenance, and bicycle redistribution.

Overview of Position:

Capital Bikeshare is seeking an organized and team-oriented dispatcher team to ensure smooth operations from “Command Central”. As a dispatcher you will need to be calm, clear and in control especially in emergency situations. The ability to multitask will consist of moving a lot of people around at the same time, tracking their movements and keeping tabs on what they need as well as answering the phones and responding to emails. Problem solving is essential; you will need to be able to assess and prioritize the most important situations and think quickly on your feet in a fast-paced and challenging environment. The dispatcher will direct all bicycle redistribution and some service, station repair, and on-street customer service issues.  You’ll be a part of a groundbreaking team that focuses on the successful operation of an innovative bicycle transportation system with emphasis on building strong client relationships while exceeding the highest standards for service.  This is a full-time position.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

 

Driver and Fleet Interaction

  • Open, close daily operations

  • Supervise the check-out  and return of equipment, vehicles, and supplies

  • Ensure maximum safety, utility, and efficiency of redistribution vehicles in the field

  • Perform visual checks to all vehicles.

  • Monitor and enforce safety, good judgment, and company policies and procedures

  • Maintain regular communication with all on-street staff throughout shift

  • Record and report on daily operations

  • Conduct a detailed report to oncoming shift including system status, staffing, and any information pertinent to the oncoming shift

Coordinate Balancing

  • Monitor bike fleet size and distribution

  • Direct drivers to bikeshare stations in need of balancing

  • Monitor and report traffic conditions as necessary

  • Record drivers’ pick up and drop off data

  • Meet productivity goals set for each shift

  • Know the pattern of the Washington, DC area concerning ridership flow

Monitor System Function

  • Monitor bike and station status - direct technicians to stations and bikes that need attention

  • Coordinate pick-up of tagged bikes

  • Coordinate response to customer service emails

  • Record information related to system function and related incidents

Miscellaneous

  • Duties of the Lead Battery Swapper as necessary

  • Duties of a Battery Swapper as necessary

  • Duties of a Rebalancer as necessary

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record required

  • Ability to lift 55+ 

  • Deep knowledge of Washington, DC area geography/street layout

  • Minimum one year of previous Washington, DC dispatch experience

  • Strong computer skills

  • Strong leadership qualities are a must.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Team player and leader by example

  • Adaptability – enthusiastically adapt to changes in the work environment

  • Dependability - Follow instructions; respond to management direction; communicate frequently; solicit feedback to improve performance

  • Interpersonal skills – maintain confidentiality; remain open to others' ideas; demonstrate patience and willingness to try new things

  • Must be able to start immediately with the ability to work various shifts, as assigned at the Capital Bikeshare office location

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with fleet dispatching software such as GeoTab or Nextraq
