Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Capital Bikeshare currently operates with over 500 stations and 4500 bikes in Washington, DC, the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD and Prince George’s County, MD, with system expansion planned in all jurisdictions.
Through contracts with the Washington DC Department of Transportation (DDOT), the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD, and Prince George’s County, MD, Motivate International, Inc. is responsible for all “on the ground” aspects of Capital Bikeshare, including but not limited to: station and bike building and deployment, station and bike repair and maintenance, and bicycle redistribution.
About the Role
Perform tasks related to the assembly and deployment of Washington, DC, MD and Virginia bikeshare stations including loading and unloading materials from trucks, assembling station components, flagging streets to direct traffic and other tasks as assigned.
Assemble station components in a warehouse.
Perform station inspections and assembly quality control.
Move plates and other materials across work sites using a pallet jack and forklift.
Follow safe work practices and adhere to all workplace policies.
Test station functionality, performing basic diagnostic testing, troubleshooting, reboots, and minor repairs.
Post no parking signs and print permits for upcoming deployments.
Perform occasional station maintenance and diagnostic work as needed.
Maintain clear and consistent communications with dispatch using provided phone/radio/GPS unit interface.
Drive vehicles to work sites in the field.
Other duties as assigned.
You have previous experience in construction, outdoor repair work, or repair of electronic equipment strongly preferred.
You are comfortable working with power tools and steel plates.
You maintain a calm demeanor when interacting with the public in the field.
You are comfortable shoveling snow.
You are comfortable working in a warehouse environment.
You are comfortable printing permits and posting notices in neighborhoods and downtown areas.
You possess a valid driver’s license.
You are well organized and can keep a good schedule of upcoming work.
You are excited about working outdoors and using heavy machinery.
You are comfortable driving and working in busy, urban environments.
You have a working knowledge of the DC area and geography/street layout.
You are a dependable person. You are always at work on time, communicate, follow instructions and ask for feedback on how to improve.
You are available to work between 8am – 6pm Monday – Friday, possibly longer on occasion and can work a weekend shift if needed.
You can be prepared for and work in inclement weather (ex: rain, cold temps, hot temps)
You thrive in a team environment.
You can lift up to 70 pounds and stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time.
