Bicycle sharing is a sustainable, healthy, and community-based transport option that enhances urban livability and mobility. Capital Bikeshare currently operates with over 500 stations and 4500 bikes in Washington, DC, the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD and Prince George’s County, MD, with system expansion planned in all jurisdictions.
Through contracts with the Washington DC Department of Transportation (DDOT), the City of Alexandria, VA, Arlington County, VA, Fairfax County, VA, Montgomery County, MD, and Prince George’s County, MD, Motivate International, Inc. is responsible for all “on the ground” aspects of Capital Bikeshare, including but not limited to: station and bike building and deployment, station and bike repair and maintenance, and bicycle redistribution.
Overview of Position: This is a full-time technical and manual position, involving moderately complex duties such as performing weekly maintenance checks and maintaining oversight and management of all fleet vehicles, and responding to company vehicles and bikeshare member crashes. Additional duties include station maintenance, facilities upkeep/maintenance and compliance with established safety protocols.
Key Aspects of Position:
Assist in the maintenance and perform minor repairs on a fleet of 18+ vehicles, ranging from gas/electric hybrid SUV to a medium-duty diesel crane truck.
Assist in site planning for new stations.
Work with clients on logistics planning for special events.
Lead or assist teams on the deployment of new stations, relocation of stations.
Assist station technicians on minor repairs to bikeshare stations.
Maintain Bikeshare operations warehouse/facility and work with landlord/outside vendors for repairs as needed.
Respond to incidents or emergencies during non-standard business hours, as Capital Bikeshare is a 24/7 operation.
Attend safety meetings and work on resolutions to improve workplace safety and regulatory compliance.
Work in partnership with Lead Station Tech, Service Manager and Field Bike Tech Supervisor to ensure timely and productive workflow.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience:
Willingness and ability to work evening hours, weekends, and/or on-call.
Minimum of 1 year work experience in automotive, power-sport or equipment/machinery maintenance.
Valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
Experience driving light and medium-duty trucks or motorized machinery.
Experience with hand, air and power tools.
Mechanical and technical aptitude.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Comfortable in a fast-paced, warehouse/shop environment.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time.
Adaptability to a changing work environment, ability to manage competing demands and deal with frequent changes, delays or unexpected events.
Interpersonal skills – ability to maintain confidentiality, remain open to others' ideas, demonstrate willingness to try new things.
Dependability – ability to follow instructions, respond to management direction, communicate frequently, solicit feedback to improve performance.
This position may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week.
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Previous mechanical, technical, and/or logistics experience is a plus.
Experience managing and prioritizing multiple conflicting demands of staff, contractors/vendors and clients in a fast paced environment.
Team management skills – ability to head up station deployment team, handling all aspects of traffic management and construction site staging.
Ability to obtain construction crane and forklift certification.
Excellent organizational skills.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Intimate knowledge of the Washington DC metro area.
