Overview of the Position


Capital Bikeshare is seeking a motivated, independent, and self starter to track down and retrieve abandoned and broken bicycles. This person will work primarily to recover abandoned or missing e-bikes from the jurisdictions that we work. The ability to self direct, work in an efficient and coherent manner, and a keen eye for bikes. The position requires the ability to drive a variety of vehicles including full sized sprinters, mid-size sprinters, and passenger cars. 


Key Aspects of the Position


  • Use mobile apps to identify tasks to complete and complete them in a coherent order

  • Accurately record data on mobile devices

  • Identify and escalate issues to dispatchers/managers as needed

  • Proactively search for bikes during slower periods

  • Follow GPS navigation to the last confirmed location of the bikes and record all data

  • Pick up broken bikes for repair

  • Relocate bikes to hire demand areas

  • Address Bikes in Use at stations

  • Use power tools including angle grinders in a safe manner and following all protocols

  • Load and unload bikes as directed by dispatchers

  • Work with local law enforcement, property management companies, and other stakeholders to recover bikes from private property 

  • Follow established procedures to ensure a safe working environment


Required Skills and Experience:


  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record required.

  • Comfortable driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.

  • A strong tech-savviness and comfort learning new computer systems

  • Knowledge of the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region geography/street layout.

  • Dependability, including the ability to be at work on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance.

  • Must be able to work up to 10-hour shifts, weekends day, and potentially overnight

  • Ability to lift over 70 pounds; stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time.

  • Must have great customer service, communication, and interpersonal skill

  • Ability to work as part of a tight-knit team.

  • Ability to follow the specific standard operating procedure

  • Interpersonal skills – maintain confidentiality; remain open to others' ideas; demonstrate patience and willingness to try new things
