Overview Of Position:

As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the Capital Bikeshare service, Motivate will launch an e-bike program with battery-powered pedal-assist bicycles added to the system. The Battery Swapper will be part of a team dedicated to working on these e-bike efforts. They will be primarily responsible for operating transit vans or SUVs and replacing batteries on e-bikes in the field.  As part of this position, the Battery Swapper will receive basic training on e-bike operations and station technology. This position will report directly to the Bike Fleet Manager.

Key Aspects of Position:

  • Use mobile apps to track inventory of e-bike batteries, and record battery changes

  • Identify and escalate issues to dispatchers/managers as needed.

  • Follow GPS-based directions and drive to locations of e-bikes needing battery swaps.

  • Follow safe work practices and adhere to all workplace policies.

  • Test e-bike functionality and performing basic diagnostic testing and troubleshooting.

  • Maintain clear and consistent communications with dispatch using a provided phone/radio/GPS

  • Address New Bike in Use issues and other open trips throughout the scheduled shift. (e.g., dock bikes as assigned).

  • Conduct asset recovery activities throughout the scheduled shifts 

  • Sticker bikes and stations as necessary (e.g., apply missing decals to bikes/stations, apply seasonal stickers to bikes, apply special offer stickers to stations).

  • Pickup “Tagged” bikes for repair

  • Perform Payment Card Industry inspections at stations.

  • Resupply and/or recover Field Bike Technicians.

  • Resupply and/or recover remotely located Field Bike Technicians.

  • Support Corral Staff, as necessary

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Valid Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record required.

  • Comfortable driving, stopping and working in busy outdoor urban environments.

  • Knowledge of the DC, Maryland, and Virginia region geography/street layout.

  • Dependability, including the ability to be at work on time, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance.

  • Must be able to work up to 10-hour shifts, with one weekend day

  • Ability to lift over 70 lbs. stoop, bend, and stand for long periods of time.

  • Must have great customer service, communication, and interpersonal skill

  • Ability to work as part of a tight-knit team.
