Dock Worker - Mexico Cross Border Services - Laredo, TX
SUMMARY
The dock worker operates a variety of material transfer equipment including powered forklifts and manual tools like a pallet jack and by hand to lift, move, position, and reposition trailer loads. Performs maintenance and minor repair activities, and a variety of semi-skilled tasks. Safely transfers freight from one trailer to another in a cross-dock environment in a safe and efficient manner. Operates powered industrial trucks to load and unload materials and deliveries and move them to and from dry vans, storage areas, machines, and loading docks, into railroad cars or trucks or storage facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Operate forklift under general supervision in a safe and efficient manner
Safely move goods packed on pallets or in crates around the storage facility and in and out of trailing equipment
Lift, and position, equipment or other large objects to and from trailing equipment
Block and brace loads to prevent shifting
Distribute the load in a manner so as to comply with DOT axle load limits
Ability to identify lift points, and properly distribute weight for proper lifting techniques, and load securement
Work within precise limits and standards of accuracy
Stack goods in the correct storage bays, following inventory control instructions
Start and stop forklift
Check to ensure loads are secure
Stack empty pallets
Follow directions carefully
Inspect forklift for safety issues on a daily basis and determine if any parts are malfunctioning
Perform daily equipment checks such as recharging the truck's battery and lubricating equipment
Remove machine attachments and waste material from machines
Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards
Prepare service quality summaries, and all other necessary paperwork
Comply with the safety and compliance procedures of Landstar
Maintain a clean and safe work environment
Other duties may be assigned.

REQUIRED SKILLS
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Must have the ability to take initiative, and direct a helper.
Working knowledge of DOT and FHA regulations including hazardous materials regulations, helpful.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED), required; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
