Specialist - Safety (Human Resources)

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Manages all safety matters, workers compensation and safety compliance for assigned J.J. Taylor Facilities.  Promotes wellness and a healthy work environment.  Works with IT and Facilities in support of site security and environmental health.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:                                                                    

 

  • Researches safety best practices and makes recommendations to enhance and improve safety programs for assigned locations.
  • Assists Director of HR & Safety and Vice President of HR, Safety and Risk in preparing and making recommendations for safety/security budget and expenses.
  • Responsible for implementation of general safety policies and procedures to ensure they are being followed by company personnel in compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
  • Walks through facility at several times throughout the day to ensure employees are complying with all safety policies and procedures, and to be a resource for employees on any issues or concerns.  Recommend corrective actions when violations are discovered, or issues need to be addressed.
  • Works collaboratively with on-site ATI CEIS to ensure proactive steps are being taken to prevent injuries in the workplace, to minimize lost time and restricted work injuries.
  • Responsible for case management—primary point of contact to work with adjusters in moving cases to closure.
  • In partnership with department manager, assists in investigating all incident, injury and accident claims for general liability/automotive/worker’s compensation to determine facts and causes.
  • Processes claims and maintains records for all incident, injury, and accident claims for general liability/automotive/worker’s compensation and enters all necessary information into the HRIS, OSHA LOG, and RISXFACS system.
  • Trains management team on the proper root cause investigation procedures for incidents, injuries, and accident claims for general liability/automotive/worker’s compensation.
  • Works with department VP’s to review and sign off on Root Cause Incident Investigation forms.  Holds all levels of management accountable for the quality of those investigations, as well as the corrective actions that result.
  • Runs expiring certification (DOT CARD/FORKLIFT LICENSE/ AUTO DECLARATION PAGE) report weekly and disseminate information to appropriate managers to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains certifications for driver’s licenses, taxable auto insurance and DOT cards and records information into HRIS system, in addition to giving all originals to HR.
  • Monitors compliance with Motus and sends out all necessary communications regarding noncompliance.
  • Works in conjunction with Human Resource Generalist and HR & Safety Director to maintain all Driver DOT files
  • Ensures all vendors have proper liability insurance coverage to provide services to J. J. Taylor.
  • Manages the temporary Alternative Duty Program for light duty workers.
  • Prepares monthly accident and injury reports, sends hours for scorecard to CMI.  Ensures accuracy of scorecard and reports before publication.
  • Works with line management to inspect and determine existing or potential accident and health hazards and recommends and implements corrective or preventative measures when necessary.
  • Follows up on all recommendations from management or safety/accident review committee to ensure that they are implemented and functioning as desired.
  • Manages the company’s safety bonus programs and ensures bonuses are processed and delivered in a timely manner each trimester.
  • Orders all safety materials, supplies and PPE needed (i.e., safety shoes, gloves, etc..).
  • Approves requests for payments in docupeak for safety related expenses, including shoes and processes any associated payroll deductions.
  • Builds & coordinates the Monthly Safety Committee in conjunction with other Florida facilities to ensure it meets its objectives.
  • Follows up on all outstanding issues, or recommendations from safety committee to ensure that they are implemented and functioning.
  • Conducts a safety audit of specific areas with the safety committee once every quarter.  Periodically conduct mock OSHA audits with CMI Compliance Consultant.
  • Assists with supporting all elements needed for Accident Review Committee meetings (partnered with both the manager and the employee presenting to ARC to ensure they understand the process).
  • Informs managers of Accident Review Commitee determinations and follows all the required actions to closure (payroll deductions, retraining, and other safety recommendations that may result from the hearing).
  • Enters all Accident Review Commitee determinations in Dayforce.
  • Travels to other Florida facilities at least once per month and additionally, as needed.
  • Coordinates random Drug Free Workplace and DOT drug testing.
  • Assists supervisors with determining via behavioral observations if a reasonable suspicion drug test should be conducted. 
  • Completes all DOT employment verifications.
  • Works in conjuction with trainers to coordinate and conduct specialized safety training programs needed to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations and increase proficiency in safe practices.  (Scissor lift, Pallet Jack, Forklift, Etc).
  • Conducts yearly OSHA training for all employees/departments. 
  • Devises, coordinates, and/or conducts safety training programs as needed for all employees to ensure compliance with all laws and regulations.
  • Creates/manages security badges for access to the building.
  • Responds to all Envision potential license issue emails and communicates those issues with applicable managers, in addition to maintaining tracking spreadsheet.
  • Conducts New Hire Safety Orientation/Tour on a weekly basis, or as needed
  • Runs annual MVR’s and ensure completion and filing of the documents.
  • Attends National Safety Council meetings and other workshops and conferences.

 

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Works on special safety projects (Evacuation Drills, Emergency Action Plan Year Update).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Educational/Vocational/Previous Experience Recommendations:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred, or equivalent Human Resource/Safety experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required
