Located in Malibu, California, HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.

The Device Technologies Department in HRL’s Sensors & Electronics Laboratory (SEL) performs research and development on next-generation electronic & opto-electronic devices. This exciting role will join a team that produces next-generation electronic devices and integrated circuits as a yield engineer. The yield engineer will help shape the research & development roadmap by developing yield models that will help determine test capacity, test plans, and yield improvement activities to close the gap between the current yield and yield goals. Duties and responsibilities include: collaborating with design, product, process, test, and failure analysis engineers at both HRL and external suppliers; developing yield models, statistical models, statistical predictions, and forecasting the yield of future products; developing models for manufacturing throughput, capacity, and cycle time; developing models for testing capacity and sampling plans; communicating results and recommendations to HRL project managers and funding agencies.

We value your 3 or more years of experience within microelectronics semiconductor industry in a yield modeling, yield analysis. Experience in design-for-manufacturability and production planning is a plus.


Knowledge of statistical semiconductor yield models and their application to yield forecasting; knowledge of industrial engineering principles related to capacity planning, as well as statistical sampling at test; understanding and working experience with statistics including ANOVA, Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Control, regression/correlation analysis (linear, non-linear, multi-variate, logistical); Knowledge of semiconductor device physics, wafer fab processes and operations, and failure analysis technologies. Experience using Design for Six Sigma methods is a plus; Knowledge of microelectronics CAD software packages is a plus.

Proficiency in use of computers, statistical programming, verbal and written communication, interaction with customers/colleagues and willingness to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Ability to work well in a team and independently.

Bachelor, Master’s, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Chemical Engineering, or similar discipline.


U.S. citizenship status required. Must be able to obtain and maintain necessary security clearances. Existing security clearance is highly desired.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "U.S. Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. "U.S. Person" includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
