Education Desired : 
Ph.D. in Physics, Materials Science or Electrical Engineering. 

Essential Job Functions : 
Perform theoretical analyses of the design and performance of silicon semiconductor heterostructure quantum dot and related nano-scale quantum-effect devices. Participate in the development of physical models and appropriate numerical simulations of materials and devices for quantum information science applications. Apply theoretical knowledge of semi-conductor materials and device physics to the design and analysis of experiments on quantum-effect devices along with their constituent materials and fabrication processes. Develop and use simulation tools for performing electronic structure calculations and quantum transport modeling of semiconductor heterostructure materials, quantum-effect devices, and few-electron quantum dot systems. Construct and analyze effective Hamiltonian models of spin-qubits realized in silicon-based quantum dot devices. Effectively present ideas and results in technical presentations, write research reports, and collaborate and communicate with team members. Contribute to research reviews, proposals, and technical report writing. 

Experience Desired : 
Design, analysis, and modeling of semiconductor heterostructure materials and devices with a particular emphasis on electronic structure, transport, and optical phenomena. Application and development of scientific software for computing electronic structure, mesoscopic transport, and optical properties of solid-state and ideally semiconductor heterostructure systems. Direct experience working in close collaboration with experimental materials and device development groups. 

Knowledge Desired : 
Strong background obtained through the PhD and/or post-doctoral work in solid state physics, semiconductor device physics, quantum-dot device design, electronic structure methods, numerical simulation, and/or applied mathematics. Detailed understanding of characterization techniques for semiconductor materials and devices including electrical characterization, mesoscopic Hall, magneto-transport, optical spectroscopy, and scanning probe microscopy. Expert knowledge of physical modeling and simulation techniques as applied to semiconductor materials and nano-scale quantum-effect devices. Expertise in the techniques of scientific computing including algorithm implementation, numerical precision and error control, and deployment on both high-performance workstations and clustered workstation systems. 

Essential Physical/Mental Requirements : 
Ability to spend extended periods of time at a computer monitor. Excellent problem solving skills. Ability and willingness to travel. Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced heterogeneous team environment. 

Special Requirements : 
U.S. citizenship is required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
