As the country faces a myriad of issues – recovery from a pandemic, rebuilding its economy and reinventing public-school models – residents of Florida’s Treasure Coast face the same challenges.
TCPalm and Treasure Coast Newspapers, part of the USA Today Network, are seeking a regional politics reporter who can bring understanding of the process and insight into how it works and deliver our readers important stories to help them navigate unprecedented times. The successful candidate can dig fast and deep to explain how politics affects our everyday health, wealth and well-being. This reporter won’t chase politicians and parrot what they say, but will take an enterprise approach that analyzes, investigates and objectively holds them accountable for whether they’re serving our communities’ best interests. This reporter will focus on the biggest topics affecting the three-county region, thoroughly explaining these issues from multiple angles.
This multimedia journalist will have a track record of finding great stories and telling and promoting them in engaging and innovative ways and on a variety of digital and print platforms. The successful candidate should be adept at source development; have experience using public records, databases and other digital-focused tools; bring a rock-solid knowledge of AP style; and demonstrate a proven ability to meet daily and weekend deadlines.
Beyond the Treasure Coast, this reporter also will identify issues and trends relevant throughout the state, reporting and writing them from a broad perspective for use across the USA Today Network-Florida, 19 daily publications stretching from the East and West coasts to Tallahassee and the Panhandle.
This job is based in Port St. Lucie, Florida. Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent education. The ideal candidate has at least three years of experience at a daily newspaper or equivalent media; a track record of strong enterprise, analysis and investigative work, preferably with a political focus; innovative data skills; and a passion for storytelling. Fluency in Spanish is a plus.
When applying, please include a single document with all your materials combined - (resume, a brief cover letter, work samples, portfolio links, etc.). The application only allows one document upload, so please provide your materials as a single attachment. Completing these steps will ensure that you receive the highest consideration.
