The Gannett Shared Services VP of Compliance and Transformation plays a critical role in the success of the future state of the organization. This role is responsible for proactively evaluating our control environment, identifying and rectifying control deficiencies, and designing controls to fit our future state operating model. 

The Gannett Shared Services VP of Compliance and Transformation will work collaboratively across Finance to identify new efficiency opportunities. They will collaborate with our stakeholders and our BPO provider to identify new service lines, process and customer enhancements, as well as automation opportunities.

Across the company teams are focused on (1) accelerating digital subscriber growth, (2) driving digital marketing services growth, (3) optimizing the print business and (4) prioritizing and investing in growth opportunities such as the Company’s events and promotions business. It is the responsibility of the Gannett Shared Services VP of Compliance and Transformation to ensure the global shared services team is properly equipped to support these companywide initiatives through a best in class framework.

The Gannett Shared Services VP of Compliance and Transformation is responsible for:

       Compliance

  • Evaluating the internal control environment of Gannett Shared Services, to identify gaps and work with shared services leadership to close the gaps
  • Working with shared services leadership and third-party providers to remediate deficiencies
  • Collaborating with Internal Audit to maintain the SSC control environment
  • Coordinating with external auditors to ensure information is properly communicated, operational changes are understood, and audits are well planned
  • Work closely with IT to understand system configurations, SOD rules, and proactively address control gaps within our tool set
  • Delivering on all control related tasks associated with the transition of work to our third party outsource provider; to include process flow documentation, validating key control activities and proper SOC1 compliance
  • Collaborating with and assisting, shared services leadership in creating a best in class control environment, including control design and execution
  • Building alignment and buy-in for identified control improvement initiatives
  • Understanding the impacts of control change to people/culture, process, policy and technology
  • Ensuring service auditor reports are available for all third-party suppliers and identifying remediation actions as necessary
  • Evaluating our BPO service provider on their control environment and adherence to Gannett’s control expectations
  • Directing our BPO service provider on any changes that are recommended to the Gannett control environment

  • Proactively identifying opportunities for operating efficiency
  • Developing and executing on the business case for change
  • Effectively communicating why the change is needed and the expected end results
  • Building alignment and buy-in for identified initiatives
  • Setting the tone and spurring enthusiasm for change

  • Overseeing execution of change initiatives, adjusting course as needed to keep delivery on target and ensuring proper outcomes are achieved

Specific capabilities include:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance or Accounting
  • Experience leading an operational team in a public company environment
  • Experience designing, implementing and testing internal controls
  • Experience working in a fast paced, global environment
  • Experience delivering complex, enterprise wide initiatives
  • Experience in operational strategy
  • Ability to work cross functionally with other shared services leaders, internal auditors and external auditors
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and delegate as appropriate
  • Skilled in process excellence and project management
  • Experience delivering complex, enterprise wide initiatives
