Housing and economy reporter
USA TODAY is seeking a reporter to cover economic and climate issues surrounding housing and real estate. The reporter will primarily focus on the economic and regulatory forces that help or hinder home ownership, including mortgage and other financial markets, personal money habits and consumer protection laws. The availability and affordability of rental housing and personal finance stories about how to buy or sell homes will also be key coverage areas.
The reporter will coordinate story plans with the housing and social services reporter, and they will occasionally work on stories together. Additional topics for this beat include the condition of various real estate markets, including commercial real estate. A final pillar of coverage is how climate change is reshaping the housing landscape.
