Breaking News Editor
USA TODAY is seeking to an experienced editor to fill a key role on our national breaking news desk. We’re looking for an editor to oversee our breaking news operation across the country. This editor should have a track record with planning, writing and editing breaking news coverage. The editor will be expected to coordinate coverage between breaking news reporters, other editors and reporters at USA TODAY and at our local properties in more than 250 newsrooms across the country.
Successful candidates must be comfortable with understanding best practices of SEO, digital publishing and metrics. Experience using CrowdTangle, DataMinr and LexisNexis is preferred. You’ll need to possess strong editing skills and be able to help reporters develop original stories in a pressure-packed environment, as well as coordinate with our visual and graphics desks. You will need to be an inspiring leader, an independent thinker and a creative problem solver who values accuracy, collaboration and strong communication.
- Bachelor's in Communications, Journalism, Digital Media or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- At least three years of experience editing in a news organization
- Strong knowledge of AP grammar and style.
- Is comfortable using social media.
- Understands media law, reporting ethics and sourcing.
- Collaborates well with others.
