The Writer Apprentice position exists to learn and develop the ability to write original scripts for Adventures in Odyssey audio products and other writing assignments including promotional scripts, copy, ads, podcast, etc.
Becomes immersed in the world of Adventures in Odyssey, learning the show’s history, characters, locations, and storylines
Writes Adventures in Odyssey scripts
Provides input on Adventures in Odyssey story ideas, outlines and scripts, as well as Clubhouse articles, podcasts, etc.
Edits/rewrites scripts as directed
Maintains currency with target audience through extensive reading, personal contact, research, involvement with social media, message boards, etc.
Works with Odyssey team in the creation of ancillary products, including videos, CD products, websites, devotions, etc.
May assist in casting process
Performs other duties, including but not limited to duties as assigned, some of which may include the development and creation of a variety of copyrightable works (e.g., print, photography, film, music, visual arts, etc.) for distribution in all media and formats (such as television, radio, internet, wireless, DVD, satellite and digital) on a world-wide basis, all of which shall be for the benefit of Focus on the Family
Working Environment/Physical Requirements:
May be required to travel occasionally

Prays personally for Focus on the Family’s staff and constituents and may occasionally lead in a public prayer

Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Journalism, Screenwriting or English preferred
1 - 3 years of experience in creative writing
Thorough knowledge of the Bible and Christian worldview
Working knowledge of Adventures in Odyssey, FOF mission, philosophy, values, and objectives
Skills, Abilities, and Special Talents/Gifts:
Advanced writing skills; ability to imitate various writing styles
Ability to both think and write creatively
Ability to clearly articulate and to defend a position
Ability to deal with stress due to deadline pressure
Basic organizational skills
Ability to apply imaginative approaches to others’ ideas
Competent in use of scriptwriting software
Ability to write primarily alone or occasionally in a team setting
Pay Range: $15.13 to $17.96/hr.
