About The Role

Job Summary:

A program is made up of multiple projects and/or work streams with varied technology solutions that all need a consistent approach to management and delivery.  Not all projects are part of a program – just those where the work is so big or complex that multiple, coordinated projects are needed to successfully deliver to the client while maintaining positive financial results.  Programs at Diversified typically align with a specific client or Enterprise Account that has a large international, national and/or regional presence.

A Global Program Director (GPD) is responsible for the overall scope, schedule, cost, quality, and client satisfaction of multiple related projects throughout their entire lifecycle, from Initiation through to Closing phases regardless of location or Diversified Specialty. This includes ensuring that all process and communication standards as well as integration with the client’s teams and their methods for delivering projects is harmonized throughout the program and those who are working within it or supporting any of the work streams or projects.  This position is accountable as the face of Diversified to the client and will engage with client leadership to understand the scope and scale of current and future projects to develop a strategy to deliver Diversified products/services consistently within client expectations and parameters.  The position will understand client needs and consult with them to prioritize and schedule project work.

The GPD is responsible for managing/overseeing, and leading Program Managers and Project Managers on all projects, budgets, and scopes for the assigned enterprise client(s). The GPD has governance of all projects; however, each project will have an assigned Project Manager who will have direct control in managing the success of their respective project. The GPD will also mentor the Program and Project Managers within the program. The GPD is ultimately responsible for all projects within the program and will interact with Diversified employees and client stakeholders at all levels. They will drive large scale transformation through standardization and process development to exceed client expectations and achieve Company goals.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:


A Diversified Global Program Director oversees programs for Enterprise Clients.  These programs are composed of large-scale ongoing project streams.  The GPD is responsible for ensuring that all clients receive excellent service throughout each encounter with the Diversified organization, and for facilitating the growth of the Enterprise Account under their care. They work with Account Executives, Program Managers, Project Managers, and Project Engineers to define milestones and high-level timelines for the programs and their projects, and they direct the engagement among all parties to deliver a smooth transition from Sales to Operations to successful completion.  A GPD oversees the Program and Project Managers who are managing the projects in their program.


The GPD is a role that has two main responsibilities, one to Client and associated Stakeholders and the other to the “Program” of multiple projects. The latter is defined as:


  1. Ensures that each project in the program has a clear scope that fits well with the other projects and with the overall scope and business objectives of the entire program.
  2. Ensures that the results of the individual projects are integrated together to create the end products, services, and benefits that the program is expected to provide to the client.  Sets up and manages the program in a way that enables Program and Project Managers and Project Teams to do this successfully.
  3. Ensures that projects in the program are organized and run in a consistent way, using agreed upon standards.
  4. The GPD also takes a closer role with the Sales Team in the management relationship with the client and all related projects within the “Program.”


Daily activities include leading stakeholder meetings, program communications, risk assessment and mitigation, forecasting, financial management, workflow oversight and quality control, and coordination with other Technical Directors throughout the Company. The GPD will spend focused time managing communication with all project stakeholders and will work closely with the Diversified Team and Partners to ensure consistency throughout the program related to communication, management, delivery, and service. 


As the primary interface to the client, the GPD develops a strong long-term relationship.  They manage the client relationship, including expectations, communications, and satisfaction.

This position has the accountability and autonomy to direct work efforts across Diversified Specialties in the delivery of services to the assigned client.  The position addresses client concerns and has authority to make decisions on behalf of Diversified to mitigate issues that arise. 


      Coordinates and Communicates.

o   Provides clear leadership and ownership for the program within Diversified, including follow up

o   Establishes all workflows associated with the timely, accurate and on-budget completion of all projects, including engaging stakeholders, delegating responsibilities clearly and running client and internal project meetings

o   Provides support and assistance to team members as needed in order help them navigate challenges and successfully manage their projects

o   Ensures appropriate and frequent communication among stakeholders

o   Resolves conflict and proactively addresses potential risk through milestone checks, quality reviews, and process adherence

      Designs, plans, and coordinates workflows within the program

      Assumes overall ownership of projects and assignments

      Establishes and maintains communication with Executive Leadership, Sales, the Program Team, Peers, and Subcontractors

      Develops and communicates program updates as required 

      Provides constant monitoring of program financials and deliverables

      Provides and/or directs technical and administrative support to project team members

      Develops workflow tools to manage scope, schedule, milestone tracking, and communications

      Performs field level quality checks. Documents all findings and keeps everyone informed of potential issues and solutions. Initiates risk mitigation plan as warranted.

      Facilitates project milestone reviews with team members to ensure on track and successful

      Responsible for contract negotiation with subcontractors and other partners

      Monitors status of projects including cost, timing, and staffing to ensure timely and accurate completion of projects

      Ensures quality and continuous improvement through workflow revisions and milestone tracking

      Coordinates training & turnover of projects to client, service department, and sales




Every project is different and every set of project stakeholders is different. The GPD needs to negotiate a very complex set of variables among system design, site conditions and a widely varying set of expectations with multiple stakeholders.  The skill of communicating both verbally and in writing to manage all these variables takes a very high level of awareness, emotional intelligence and people management skills.  The GPD is constantly managing the forces of change in every project environment. Balancing schedules, budgets, scope, quality and client satisfaction are a very complex set of variables. This position has all the complexities of program and project management along with higher level oversight and directional leadership and the close connection with the Sales Team in managing the account. Moreover, the GPD must navigate these complexities on a global scale.

  2. Communicates decision options to stakeholders and manages those decisions.
  3. Manages a complex array of decisions for the program through collaboration, client reviews, escalations, and analysis of the business.

Physical Working Environment:


Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that may be met by an employee.  The employee may be exposed to construction site conditions on a regular basis.  Employee will be responsible for their safety while on job sites and to comply with all safety regulations in place by the GC. Use of PPE is usually required on job sites.  The employee can typically spend at least 40% of their time on their feet and be required to mobile around the construction site.  The employee must have the ability to occasionally climb ladders, use stairs and lift and/or move materials up to 20 pounds in construction areas.  The individual is regularly required to use keyboards, test equipment and controls required for SI installation projects.  Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth vision.   When not on construction sites, the employee will experience normal office conditions and be required to use office equipment such as computers, peripherals, etc.



Frequent travel by car and occasional airplane trips are required. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license in their state of residence. Employee will be required to use their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for mileage at the current corporate rate. Local travel to job sites (within a 2 hour driving distance each way) will make up 70-90% usually but remote travel can be up to 30% of the job at times. 10% remote travel is required on a regular basis.


Job Qualifications:



      Bachelor’s degree  and/or equivalent experience

      PMP certification from the Project Management Institute preferred


Required/Desired Knowledge, Experience and Skills:


A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Program Manager and 8 years as a Project Manager in commercial construction trades and settings is required.  Deep knowledge and experience with audio/video systems.  Knowledgeable of low voltage electrical projects.  Strong verbal and written communication skills.  Supervisory and people skills. The Project Manager shall have the ability and skills to diagnose and resolve complex technical, political and people related problems. Great people leadership skills are required. Strong financial background in project cost accounting is required.
