Cable and Antenna Systems Technician

Umyuaq Technology and our partners are looking for a qualified Cable and Antenna Systems Technician to join our team at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, Florida. The successful candidate will join a team of diverse disciplines supporting rebuild efforts following the 2018 Hurricane Michael devastation. Specific tasks for the Cable and Antenna Systems Technician include:

  • Install copper and fiber optic cable as required by buried or underground methods. Diagnose, locate and repair troubles in cables, splices, and terminals. Must use established procedures utilizing standard test equipment to include latest state-of-the-art equipment.

  • Make fiber splice connections by fusion splicing or mechanical methods as required. After splice has been completed tests conductors for continuity, adequate insulation, and other tests as required by standards. Must protects splices from moisture.

  • Install fiber optic cable to include both single mode and multi-mode design. Terminates and tests completed work. Ensure Technical Order, commercial, and local specifications are met. Install associated equipment such as Building Entrance Protectors (BEPs), fiber optic splice cases, patch panels, tracer cables, equipment racks, fiber optic jumpers, and fiber optic inner duct.

  • Use equipment such as microscopes, fusion splicers, fiber tools, connector kits, Optical Time Domain Reflectometers and other test equipment as required to complete assigned taskings.

  • Use and update engineered and installation project drawings, utilize computer aided drawing software, such as CIPS/CVC for conducting AF Form 103 dig permits, cable locates and cable identification.

  • Install, remove/relocate and troubleshoots connectivity to equipment including various routers, switches as required to support Local Area Networking on the Tyndall AFB computer systems. Install premise wiring and peripheral devices to provide voice and data connectivity in facilities where base services are required. Provide knowledge for planning, analysis, design, development, testing, configuration, integration, maintenance, and/or administration of network systems including LANs, WANs, MANs, Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), Internet/Intranet systems, and premise wiring in support of

    voice and data requirements.

  • Install and maintains standard network cabling such as category 5e, 6 and 7, twisted pair, fiber optic cable and associated connectors to support both secure and non-secure networks.

  • Use test equipment such as Cable Scanners and Optical Time Domain Reflectometers/power meters for cable certification and troubleshooting of LANs and ISP fiber optic cables.

  • Use copper cable test equipment to locate faults such as, but not limited to, opens, transpositions, shorts, crosses and grounds in cables and makes repairs as necessary. Makes continuity tests from terminal locations and splice points to ensure there are no breaks in the circuit. Identify cable pairs in working/nonworking cable using telephone test equipment to keep pairs in proper sequence.

  • Perform scheduled Preventive Maintenance Inspections (PMls), unscheduled maintenance, and repairs on various type of antennas. Be familiar with UHF/VHF, Rotatable Log Periodic (RLP) and OMNI-directional antenna systems, conduct technical inspections on antenna systems to ensure equipment conforms to prescribed technical performance standards and specifications. Conducts and interprets Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) tests.

  • Utilize safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations,

  • maintain a safe, and clean work environment. Use and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing (Personal Protective Equipment). Keeps supervisor apprised of maintenance problems, adaptability of equipment, new equipment needs and other job-related issues on an as needed basis. Frequently required to operate a variety of motor vehicles and equipment in the accomplishment of assigned duties, e.g. ¾ ton four-wheel drive line truck, motorized trenching machine with backhoe/vibratory plow attachment, 2 ½ ton truck or any other special purpose vehicle required to accomplish the mission.

  • This position is mission essential and may require working nonstandard duty shifts, periods of on-call status, remote (telework) duty, and/or duty during nights, weekends, or holidays.

  • It is preferred that the contractor hold Building Industry Consulting Service International

    (BICSI) Installer level certification or equivalent level of experience.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalency.

  • Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) Installer 2,

  • Copper and Optical Fiber Cabling Installation Certifications or a minimum 3 to 5 years industry experience installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting copper and fiber inside/outside plant is required.

  • Experience and/or training should include copper and fiber optic termination, patch panel installation, and troubleshooting with OTDR, power meter, and LAN testers.

  • At minimum possess a Secret Security Clearance.

  • Tower/pole climb certification is also preferred.
