Peak Adventures’ purpose is to kindle personal growth, leadership, and connections through experiences in the outdoors.
 

ASI’s Peak Adventures is an outdoor adventure program dedicated to getting Sac State Students outside. Peak Adventures provides guided outdoor trips, low cost gear rentals, full service bike repair at The Bike Shop, summer youth camps and team building at The Challenge Center.

SUMMARY: The Outdoor Trip Program Assistant (OTPA) is responsible for supporting seasonal operations of the Peak Adventures Outdoor Trip Program. OTPA’s will assist with maintaining equipment, maintaining program vehicles and trailers, conducting comprehensive equipment inventory, and supporting equipment purchases and repairs. Additionally OTPA’s will assist with researching trip location, providing assistance on trips, as well as provide training support. The Outdoor Trip Program Assistant position is meant to serve as a stepping stone to the Outdoor Trip Leader position.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Safely perform job duties

Assist with equipment maintenance

Assist with van, trailer and golf cart basic maintenance and cleaning. Operation of vehicles if the OTPA has the appropriate training.

Assist with inventory (each semester organize the inspection, relabeling and maintenance of all Peak Adventures equipment).

Assist with planning and implementation of training.

Assist with researching new trip locations.

Support preparation for upcoming outdoor trips including assessing equipment and confirming location information.

Support the Outdoor Adventures Manager in updating Peak Adventures training manuals.

Assist with outdoor trips marketing efforts to include marketing booths, class visits and print material distribution.

Assist with front desk customer service as needed.

Assist Peak Adventures Trip Leaders on trips while supporting positive group dynamics

Progress towards competencies needed to become an Outdoor Trip Leader

Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Enrolled in a minimum of 6 units at Sacramento State; maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA overall (for Student Assistant incumbents)

CPR Certification (Online certification not accepted)

Ability to learn basic outdoor equipment and operations

Currently hold a driver’s license

Ability to obtain California Commercial Class C (or higher) with a passenger endorsement and meet ASI driving requirements within four months of hire


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with outdoor activities including but not limited to rock climbing, mountain biking, backpacking, snowboarding, and/or caving

Wilderness First Aid or higher certification


PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to fingers, handle, feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee must:

Frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds or 100 pounds assisted.

Must be able to climb, kneel, squat, reach overhead

Must be able to travel on uneven surfaces

Must be able to work for up to 12 hours with high level of focus

Must be able to operate a vehicle and drive in a variety of weather conditions


WORK ENVIRONMENT (Choose one only)

•Combination of indoors and outdoors settings. Will be required to spend 5-10 hours in Peak Adventures office or up to 16 hour days assisting on outdoors trips.
