Ailey Camp Administrator
The mission of Ailey Arts In Education & Community Programs (AIE) is to cultivate and energize youth and adults to take, make, and see dance. Through our school and community outreach programs, we inspire our audiences to explore their own creativity and experience the joy of dance. AIE: TAKE. MAKE. SEE…DANCE!
As part of Arts In Education & Community Programs, AileyCamp is a fun-filled 6-week summer day camp where young people ages 11-14 learn to dance and explore their creativity. The program helps youth develop their self-confidence in an atmosphere of warmth, respect and trust. Campers take dance classes from experienced teaching artists in popular styles such as West African, jazz, ballet, tap and the Lester Horton technique (which is the basis of many of Alvin Ailey’s works). Campers also participate in workshops to build leadership and communication skills and enjoy a variety of athletic and social activities. The AileyCamp Director is looking for a dedicated Administrator to handle administrative responsibilities for AileyCamp New York and Newark.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Assist in the coordination of all pre-camp aspects of AileyCamp New York and Newark relating to the physical set-up of the camp site under the guidance of the National Director.
- Assist in the coordination of all aspects of camp field trips including transportation.
- Assist in the coordination of bus transportation of campers to and from camp.
- Assist in the coordination of breakfast, lunch and snacks for campers.
- Supervise interns and volunteers.
- Report individual campers’ counseling needs to the Guidance Counselor
- Participate in rehearsal, preparation and day-of final performance activities as needed to support the artistic staff.
- Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings (3:30 – 4:30pm) and individual meetings as needed.
- Dress in the AileyCamp staff uniform and in a neat and clean manner insuring clothing and/or costumes do not contain inappropriate references for children (alcohol, drugs, profanity, etc.).
- Attend a two-day mandatory staff orientation in conjunction with the Artistic and National Director.
- Voluntarily participate in the background checks required for employment including but not limited to federal and sex offender checks and finger printing.
- Other duties as necessary to insure the safe and efficient operation of AileyCamp.
Skills/Qualifications:
- Must possess strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills; with a pleasant telephone manner and a clear email communication style.
- Strong, detail-oriented project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while managing multiple projects.
- Must have strong computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher a plus.
- Must be a willing and flexible team player, showing initiative to do what needs to be done to get the job done.
- College, experience in the arts or non-profit is a plus.
