Accounting Intern Part-Time

This position applies principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports. This individual is responsible for the administration of all aspects of the US accounts payable process as well as other projects assigned by management.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to accounts, such as general ledger accounts and documenting business transactions.
Obtains proper approval for accounts payable invoices.
Prepares accounts payable checks, prints accounts payable reports and maintains accounts payable files.
Prorates expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records.
Answers accounts payable phone inquiries and follows up.
Assists in monthly financial closings.
Assists with accounts receivable and special projects, as necessary.
Obtains and mails invoice copies for customers, as requested.
Researches and processes credit memos, returns, and bad checks.
Reconciles client bank statements.
Calls and/or mails correspondence to customers as necessary in order to update accounts.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education requirement (GED) required. Attendance at a college with the intent of a Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from a four-year college or university is required.
TECHNOLOGY SKILL BASE
This position requires a working knowledge of computer technology that includes: Intermediate Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. Individuals must possess the ability to learn and understand new software and other technology applications as introduced by the Client and Alta Resources.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for up to eight hours, and stand. Manual dexterity which allows the individual to use hands to type on a keyboard, use a mouse and write are required, as is the ability to talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
