Mailroom Helper

The primary role of the Mailroom Helper is to process and bundle all publications for carriers, haulers and mail delivery; operate inserting machine and supporting equipment and ensure all inserts are properly inserted into each publication for distribution. Perform maintenance on all packaging equipment.
 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Process and bundle all publications for carriers, haulers and mail delivery
• Pull papers off the press and move to inserting machine
• Program SLS Machine
• Make packets; what inserts go into the different zones
• Mark manifests to show where the different zones start and stop
• Total all publications for each different zone
• Program packet and zone information into the computer
• Operate inserting machine
• Perform standardized set up and adjustments, maintenance, and operating procedures
• Monitor inserting machine and make adjustments
• Ensure all inserts are properly inserted into each product for distribution
• Check advertising inserts scheduled to run; make sure inserted in correct publication and zone
• Pre-stuff inserts in Sunday comics
• Move advertising inserts from pallets to inserting machine
• Observe operation of inserting machine and notify of malfunctions
• Process and bundle newspapers for delivery to mail subscribers
• Address newspapers for mail subscribers
• Sort and assemble mail bundles according to zip code
• Tie mail bundles by using strapping machine
• Deliver mail bundles to post office
• Process and bundle newspapers for delivery to carriers and haulers
• Count and assemble carrier and hauler bundles
• Hand count bundles that do not contain the same number of newspapers as regular bundles
• Tie carrier and hauler bundles by using strapping machine
• Move bundles onto conveyor for distribution to carriers and haulers
• Perform maintenance on equipment
• Unload semi-trucks if necessary (need to be certified on the forklift)
• Maintain and keep work areas clean
• Maintain strict operating procedures and safety guidelines
• Meet deadlines
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid driver's license
• High school diploma or equivalent
